Hawks officially shake up front office personnel ahead of pivotal offseason

The Atlanta Hawks have seemingly been at a crossroads every offseason since their magical Eastern Conference Finals run some years ago, but it feels different this Summer.

The club has to make changes, and not just minor tweaks to the roster. Wholesale changes need to come. Most NBA pundits believe the Hawks will trade one of Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, with the latter being the most popular option.

Though the offseason could bring a sense of newfound hope, some Hawks fans (like me) aren’t as confident in the organization. It’s a franchise that has tripped over itself time and time again, thanks to less-than-ideal ownership.

What’s to change this time around? Landry Fields is about as inexperienced as any GM in any sport, and Kyle Korver has never held a front office role until his monumental climb in Atlanta. Oh yeah, I didn’t even mention Tony and Nick Ressler’s impact.

Well, maybe there’s a breath of fresh air coming to the Hawks front office. The club officially announced the hiring of Onsi Saleh, giving him the title of assistant general manager.

It was reported a couple of weeks ago and is now official. Much like Atlanta’s group, Saleh has risen through the ranks quickly.

He spent the last few years with the Warriors organization under Mike Dunleavy, mostly as the VP of Basketball Strategy and Team Counsel. Prior to his time with Golden State, he was in the Spurs front office for five years.

The Hawks are clearly gearing up for what could be the most important offseason in recent memory. There’s the potential for a breakthrough but also a complete and total setback.
